Letter to Doctor Ass hole

Dear Doctor Asshole; yesterday when I was in your office; your staff treated me like an untouchable. Since I am a new patient of yours I specifically ask your office manager to send me the paper work two weeks ago so when I came to your office it would already be filled out. Because I took a taxi to your office and had nobody to fill out my paper work, your staff humiliated me by acting like this was such a problem for them to do. After all, I showed up 30 minutes early just because of your lack of responcibility to sending me the paper work like I requested in the first place. When a office person did finally help me with the paper work, they had the nerve to ask me all these private questions in front of strangers in the wating room. Like, when was your last period, do you have HIV,when was your last bm,. What happen to the right of privacy? After all we have to sign a piece of paper every time we come into a doctors office just to have permission so you don't give out our private information. Then when I requested your office person take me to a private area to fill out these forms, she became very upset. Do I need everyone to know my business and social security number. Hell no!!! Then after waiting another 25 minutes, and one of your nurses said next time make sure someone comes with me and don't bring my dog, are you freaken serious? Because of this behaviour that is why I turned around and walked out of your office. I have filed a report on your staff and this is unexceptable to treat people with or without a disability. I will never step one foot in your office again and hope nobody has to go through this embarrasment like I did This is not the end of this...

Ok, people, have any of you been through shit like this?

Oh my, this is indeed a horrible way to treat a person!
Luckely, I have not been treated like that and I hope I never have to deal with that.

Post 3 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Thursday, 14-Feb-2008 16:05:06

time to sue the bitches and bastards at this doctor's office. Good of you to walk out on them like that.

Post 4 by Dubstep1984 (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 16-Feb-2008 12:20:29

i agree with joanne. u need to sue them. that is really not right at all. honestly, these people need some serious sensativity training.

Post 5 by Brooke (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 16-Feb-2008 12:36:07

Wow. That's never happened to me, but I'm glad you walked out. Nobody should be treated that way!

Post 6 by Dubstep1984 (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 16-Feb-2008 13:51:29

if i am not mistaken, that is a rights issue.

Post 7 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Saturday, 16-Feb-2008 15:32:10

Yes, and, I would feel the same way if it happened to a sighted person.
That is simply disgusting.

Post 8 by Dubstep1984 (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 17-Feb-2008 0:22:25

it really is. not to mention unethical as well.

Post 9 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Sunday, 17-Feb-2008 2:51:19

Truly a bad situation. I've never been treated like that, but I do usually have someone with me to fill out paperwork and have never had to ask the office staff to help me. But they should certainly have honored your request for privacy since they did not send you the paperwork ahead of time.

Post 10 by Dubstep1984 (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 17-Feb-2008 18:33:37

when i went to the doctor before i was married, the office staff were very nice about helping me fill out paperwork. now if my husband does not come with me, i get someone from the office to help me and they are usually very nice abut it.

Post 11 by Dubstep1984 (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 17-Feb-2008 18:38:18

there was this one day where the intake secretary for surgery did not accept my signature however. when i signed my name, she looked at it and said, "this is unacceptible. i cannot read it." and i said, "oh well. it is my signature. take it as is. so she gets all huffy and hands the pen to my driver who signed my name to the paperwork. let me tell you, that was embarrassing as hell, not to mention illegal for her to do. sometimes i let my sister sign for me, but that is for store purchases and such, not consent for surgery doccuments.

Post 12 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Monday, 18-Feb-2008 16:28:11

That is a shameful way for people to behave.

Post 13 by Dubstep1984 (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 18-Feb-2008 23:47:05

no doubt.

Post 14 by soaring eagle (flying high again!) on Tuesday, 19-Feb-2008 8:59:33

Wow! sue the bastards!! and you did ask for the paper work inadvance so you tried. They should have been more respectful. I had this happens in restaurants but not in an office.

Post 16 by Eleni21 (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Wednesday, 20-Feb-2008 22:28:17

That is seriously sickening! It's the kind of thing that makes me want to use my formal/proper english and write a letter of my own. Trust me, when I'm infuriated enough to the extent that I write in a manner such as this, in order to gain someone's full attention, it's not good! More seriously, I you should definitely sue them. Not only was that disrespectful, but I'm willing to bet it was illegal, especially with things such as your social security number! I'd also report them to the Better Business Bureau. Go all out, tell them that this has effected you emotionally, and you'll get even more money. Normally, I'm not that type of person, but some people have got to learn! In regards to having someone sign your name, I do believe that's legal, but they have to initial it with their initials and put a circle around that. I don't, however, know if that is legal for major things such as surgery. I have a stamp that I use for all important documents.

indeed, they broke the law.

Post 19 by Eleni21 (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Monday, 25-Feb-2008 11:26:45

Wow! I don't mind answering if I have a living will etc, but my ssn? Fuck them!

Hey all, I did file a complaint with the city and they are looking in to it and a couple reporters want to interview me. Right now I am advised not to tell the story yet, until we talk to the office manager and some other crap with the office. I have been waiting on a call from the city and the doctor office. I will call soon to find out what is going on. If I don't get any where, I am going to talk to the reporter.
You guys rock. Thanks for the replys.

Post 23 by motifated (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 26-Feb-2008 5:49:51

Good luck, Colleen. I don't know where you live, or the medical practice involved, but if this is with an HMO, I'd seriously contact the HMO's Headquarters. I'd consider strongly pointing out to whomever that people with disabilties probably as a group frequent doctors/HMOs more often than the general population, and that this wil have a huge ripple effect for this practice. This is totally unacceptable. I wonder if this is a violation of that god-awful privacy act that we're supposed to sign without reading as well. Oh, consider contacting the local chapter of the AMA as well if need be.

Thanks for the extra info. I am working on it. Still haven't talked to the office manager. Going to call her soon.

Post 25 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Wednesday, 12-Mar-2008 16:19:12

well, good luck

Post 26 by guitargod1 (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Wednesday, 12-Mar-2008 18:55:38

actually, writing an X, or, your initials, is a legally binding form of signing an agreement. It doesn't matter it it's legible or not. also, they cannot ask you to not bring your dog if it is a service dog, dog guide, I'm assuming. As for the paperwork, I've bene through the same kind of crap. When I lived in the UK, it was so much easier. In the US, even going for blood work or whatever takes three hours. It's a disaster. And they never send things ahead of time in regards to paperwork. it's frustrating. I certainly hope that these guys get bad press for this. They deserve an ass kicking in the local media that's for sure!

Post 27 by Dubstep1984 (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 12-Mar-2008 23:26:27

congrads girl! may this be the start of the medical community's reform!

Post 28 by sea star (I just keep on posting!) on Friday, 14-Mar-2008 6:02:51

you should sue these bastards. they shouldn't treat anyone that way.

Post 29 by Thunderstorm (HotIndian!) on Friday, 14-Mar-2008 7:06:56

I'm sure it's an idiotic treatment. kick them off.

Post 30 by forereel (Just posting.) on Friday, 14-Mar-2008 15:55:01

Very sad this. You'd think doctors and medical staff would be trained to deal with disability, or people in need without any issues, but this is not the case, and this is really sad.
Do your best to train them. Next time they'll have some manners.

The thing that needs to be understood whether anyone likes it or not is that these people are getting paid so whther they actually mean good, or could care less it is taking a gamble. I've had much worse happen to me and my mom. right now we'rre in a lawsuit with a doctor and we hope to get at least a mill. They don't want to settle this in courte obviously, since because of this my mom is an amputee. On top of that she just had brain surgery do to the infection spreading to her brain. Luckily she is ok and will be for a very very very long time. The doctor bottom line in my situation was that he was neglagent. Again, these doctors are in it for the money nothing else even if they do mean good. But on the same note, even if they do mean good tot he patient, they are brainwashed in colleges and schools with alol these meds that do nothing to cause even more problems. So even if they try to help they actualy hurt in the long run.

Post 32 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Friday, 21-Mar-2008 23:37:25

I thought guide dogs were allowed in any public building by law. I agree with post 3, sue them. That's a load of shit. Glad to hear that your mom is gonna be fine cod.y

Post 33 by Dubstep1984 (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 22-Mar-2008 18:22:57

whatever happened to the hipocratic oath of do no harm?

Post 34 by sparkie (the hilljack) on Sunday, 23-Mar-2008 22:48:08

I had two similar situations.
One was in the social security office when the guy at the front desk made my paratransit driver help me sign in and when asked why can't he help me the guy said I'm not aloud which made no cence to me.
My last problem was I had trouble with a company here in columbus called yellow cab. They kicked me off their service because I reported several drivers for not dropping me off in the right areas when before I got out of the cab they told me it was where I said to drop me off but it really wasn't. I filed a complaint but since I wasn't the direct customer they couldn't do anything. It was actually prepaid through an agency.

Hi all, Sorry I haven't gotten back to this post. First of all, thanks for the support!!! This has been such a nightmare, but here are a few updates. They fired the person who treated me so rudely. One excuse they used is that she is from China and was not familiar with service dogs and the laws behind them. I do have a lawyer and things are starting to roll, but they want to settle out of court. I am advised not to do this because my lawyer said I can win this with no problem. So now I am just waiting for a call about setting a court date. This is so overwhelming and well I can't wait until it is all over.
And to post 31 I wish your mom a lot of luck!
